Umesh Adhikary

Umesh Adhikary is the Senior President, Chairman’s Office at ABG. The Chairman’s Office tracks business performance, evaluates the portfolio of the Group and plans resource allocation which include organic and inorganic initiatives. Before joining the Chairman’s Office in Feb 2017, Umesh was President, Corporate Strategy & Business Development which formulates and devizes long term strategic plans for the businesses including strategizing merger and acquisitions and conceptualizes entry strategy into new businesses.

Since joining ABG in 1999 as Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy and Business Development, Umesh has played a pivotal role in developing strategic plans for various businesses, acquisitions and joint ventures including Metals, Cement, Financial Services and Retail businesses that have significantly broadened the portfolio of the Group. Umesh initiated the Aditya Birla Bizlabs program at the Aditya Birla Group – a platform for the Group businesses to work and collaborate with technology startups and the digital eco-system.

Umesh has over 25 years of experience encompassing formulating strategy for both manufacturing and services businesses, project financing and M&A. He has had successful stints as an executive in Tata Steel and Essar Group before joining ABG.

He was conferred the Chairman’s ‘Exceptional Contributor’ Award in 2010 and ‘Accomplished Leader’ Award in 2016 at ABG.

Umesh has earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Rourkela and a post-graduate degree in Management from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. He has attended the Advanced Management Program at the London Business School and is also an alumni.
